L2 with EAD-can apply for greencard?

Hi,
I came to USA on L2 and got EAD within 40 days. I was working then and filled my first Tax return this year along with my spouse (combined tax return. I am self employed. (rather free lancer).

Now i come to my question.
I came to know that L2 visa holder with valid EAD can apply for greencard.
Is it true? any idea? pl. let me know if anybody has any idea and what is the procedure or any link from where i can get more info about this.

Would really appreciate your suggestion / guidance.

Green card needs to be sponsored by the employer. In most cases, L2 which is dependent on principal L1 visa holder get green card along with L1 employer sponsorship for green card to L1 holder.

Actually my spouse's employer is not sponsoring GC. I came to know that EAD holders can apply for GC but as i am self employed, i don't have employer to sponsor GC. I was looking for any provision for self employed to apply for GC.

Any suggestion or guidance will be very well appreciated.
