  • L1A Visa/I94 valid till Oct, 2018 but suggestion to attend consulate intrv in March

    Hello Seniors!

I have L1A visa and I94 validity till Oct,2018. I am travelling to India in March 2018. My office is suggesting to apply for visa extension and attend consulate interview for visa stamping in March itself.

    Could you please suggest:
    1) Should I attend consulate interview and get the approval and stamping done during my March visit to Inida ? Since I will have 6 more months of valid visa/i94 till Oct?
    2) Or should I just come back from my India visit on my existing visa and then initiate the visa extension process please?

Kindly suggest which would be better as I am hearing a lot of rejectsion/RFE's lately and want to go with the less risky approach.

    Thank you in advance!

You can do both, however I would suggest to visit India little earlier (Jan/Feb 2018) & then apply for extension from US - this way you'll can continue working safely.

My lawyers always said that is easy to renew in your home country. I know a lot of friends that followed this rule and were able to renew without any issues. Even some renewed in Canada (I did that...twice!)... There is some difference between consular processing and USCIS processing....consulate has some limitations and USCIS officers don`t...I read that somewhere but cannot find the source now. It is something that consulate needs stronger reasons...
