L2: i94 extension options after expiry date with valid visa stamped & i797A

Hello,
I forgot to extend my son i94, it is already 2 months now,
he has valid visa stamped and has valid i797A,
but when he entered USA last time (after i797A approval), i94 validity reduced to his passport expiry date.
Now i have his new passport, is it possible to apply for i94 extension now? does it create any issues for reentry if he travels out side USA now?
His GC: AP is approved, but i485 is still in process, does it create any issues for his GC processing?
My i94 is due for ext in Dec 2018, i want to go for i94 ext along with dependents now.
please suggest best way to fix this issue.

His visa is void now since he stayed past the date on his I-94.

USCIS generally does not accept Extension of Status applications when the person is already out of status, except in special circumstances.

He should probably leave the US and apply for a new visa and then return.
