Dropbox or not when 1-797 is valid

Hi,

I came to US on L1A Blanket visa and then extended my work permit twice with new petition.

My visa expired in Feb 2018 and I am planning to visit India in Dec. I know I have to get my visa stamped but not sure if I can do a dropbox or need to go to on window for interview.

They say since I have filed extension couple of times my visa type has changed from L1 Blanket to L1 Individual. Hence I cannot go for dropbox even when I am getting my visa stamped in less than 1 yr since my visa got expired.

Please suggest

Since you have your separate approved I797, you'll need to apply at consulate.

My suggestion will be to go with consulate as dropbox will take approx 1-2 week & you won't left with much time to apply at consulate & get your visa before your return date.
