L1 Extension - Problem in requested extension dates

HEllo Immihelp,

My Current L1b which is issued in May 2016 is having Valid untill date on 797 A is may 2019.
I am trying to file extension but my organization is filling the extension till Jan 2021 however i am under impression it should be till end of 5 years from issued date. if this is correct then the extenxion upto date should be May2021 . Is this understanding correct ? PLease help??

Organization can decide for how long they would like to keep you in USA. So if the scope of the project is not much, they cannot file for extra time (they will be answerable to USCIS upon questioning).

Before Jan 2021, you can again file for another extension & that time you can claim for your out of country presence as well.
