  • How soon can I fill out DS-160 and interview?

    Hi all,

I am about to get transferred on a L1-A visa to US from Europe. Our local US Embassy has in general 1 days of waiting for the interview. I am starting my job in the US on the 15th July 2019. My question is: how soon can I fill out the DS-160 and go for the interview (in other words, for how long is a visa valid, until I must enter the contry)? Our US lawyer says we have to wait to May, but I think thats a long time to wait, and what if I dont get the visa?

My company has a blanket petitition for the L1 visa in the US.

Supp. question: is it correctly understood, that I cannot enter US before 10 days of the work start (i.e. in my case 5th July)? Thats not a long time to find housing, SSN, DMV, a car, Banking etc... Any suggestions?

Yes you cannot enter into USA before 10 days of your L1 petition/job start date.

And 10 days is good enough for all things you mentioned.

For Housing - you can do your homework online right now & finally visit couple of selected places once you are in USA.

Banking, SSN & DMV are hardly couple of hours.

Car is no hurry - you can survive with rental for couple of initial months.

I don't think there is any published rule for that, but within 3 months should be good enough.
