L1 Visa stamping back in India . please help

Hello All ,
I came to US on B1 visa for training and later i got an opportunity to work here. So i applied for L1 visa. Now i am planning to go to India in coming December. My attorney who did visa work for me says i need to go to Mumbai consulate and get my Visa stamped. I cannot go to Canada to get it done as i dont have a degree from US. Also she has cautioned me that I may get screwed at Mumbai consulate. I am worried.
Is there any body who has shared similar experiences??

I had an L1 but our attorney advise us against going back after being in busines for - years you can file for green card and then ask for travel documents and only then you can travel. But I would say do not risk. You can get a green card in yrs for L 1

i talked with my employer . he is willing to file my green card, but can i travel easily to india. say every year?
