Help needed on applying for a EAD for an L2

Hi ,
I have reached US on L2 . Can somebody please tell me what is the process to apply for an EAD. Do i need to get an SSN before applying or EAD or is it vice versa.. Heard that there is a new rule that SSN is not being given to L2/H4 unless they have the workpermit.

Could some one please assist me in applying my SSN and EAD....

It's not a new Rule. It's an existing rule only. You first have to get the EAD which is workpermit on EAD and then only you can apply for SSN which hardly takes 10days and you can work having these two only.

You have apply I-765 form and the necessary proof to apply for EAD. You can find the entire information in USCIS website.

Thanks a lot for the reply.So I have to first apply for EAD and then SSN. Is it that I cant apply for my Driving license in NJ unless I get my SSN. Can i Drive if i have the International Driving Permit(IDP) from India.

Could you please also let me know how long does it take to get the Workpermit once i apply for it.
