I want to change my L1 to L2 through my spouse

I am currently working on L1B, My husband is working on L1 as well. Due to personal benefits i want to change my current L1 status to L2.
1) Do i have to go back to my country to change the L1 to L2?
2) can i apply for L2 and apply for EAD while i am still on L1? Or does my L1 expire once the L2 is stamped.

The reason being if i change my L1 status to L2, i dont want to wait for 3 months without working till i get my EAD to apply for a job.
