  • H1 to L2 change of status

I am currently on a H1B and I have 3 years left on it. My spouse is on L1A. I have a few questions:

    1. Is it suggested to change the status from H1 to L2? I believe L2s can work without too many restrictions.

    2. If I do a change of status, can I apply for Green card on my own (on L2)

    3. Is it possible to change from L2 to H1 later on if needed. Would I fall under the quota?

    Please help!

    L1 and H1 issues

I am currently on a H1B and I have 3 years left on it. My spouse is on L1A. I have a few questions:

    1. Is it suggested to change the status from H1 to L2? I believe L2s can work without too many restrictions.

---- Yes, People on L2 can work and that totally depends on the L1 and their pay structure (if you believe)

    2. If I do a change of status, can I apply for Green card on my own (on L2)

    ---- Absolutely NO

    3. Is it possible to change from L2 to H1 later on if needed. Would I fall under the quota?

---- NO, you will not fall under the quota as you have already been counted once

      Thanks for the reply.. Subramanya..

I read that the time I spend on L status will be added to the total H time of 6 years. If I change my status to L2, and my spouse fails to get a GC sponsored from the employer, what are some of the options I would have at that time?

I am trying to understand if this change of status is favorable to me in the long run or not..
