  • SSN does not say if can work or not . On L2

    Hi,

I am on L2 and I just received my SSN .

My dilemma is, I thought (based on many thread that I read before posting question), I need to get EAD to be able to work but now I have SSN and it does say that , "I cannot work". neither does it say that "I can work"

Do I still need apply for EAD ?

    YES.
    You Need your EAD.
I have some friends who are international students and there cards came with out the " Not authorized to work Without INS permission". This happens once in a while. The kind of SSN you have is the Normal SSN for Citizens.

With this kind of a SSN, the employer can't really know you are not authorized to work without EAD and Most likely will not ask you for it. It doesn't make it legal to work without a EAD though. You can fool the employer coz they will think you are a citizen but when you try to apply for other Immigration benefits like Your Green card, citizenship e.t.c, then you will have a price to pay.

If you wanna be legal, Yes you need to apply for your EAD.

    Good Luck!
    Tim
