L1-Visa - Port of entry

Hi Friends,

This forum is really helpful, provides lot of information.

I had a question :

One of my friend has his L1 stamped. His project will start from April 2008, he is going to work in CA. Just wanted to know whether he can come to NJ and stay with me for a couple of months. His petition is approved in CA region. Is it possible to change the port of entry for L1 visa's?? If so what points need to be considered??

I don't know if POE can be changed or should be changed

but your friend can come to CA first and then stay with you for couple for sure. but again I am not sure..coz if the domestic flights will ask for photo identity and what will he be able to show ? his passport and visa ? may be some one else can throw some light over this

POE-does it matter?

Hi,

I have come into the US four times from India and every time I had different POE. It is the first airport that you land into and normally all international flights would put you into that airport where there is immigration facility or check. And POE need not be the city of work.

What if your flight itinerary is through NJ and then connected to CA? It is your choice where you want to land into the US.

After that no one cares where you stay or how many places you travel before you begin your work. At the POE they count you as the alien who has come into the US.

So, I believe you can safely land in NJ and enjoy your stay before you begin your work.

I just had my L1 approved and there is not POE even mentioned! I'm going to be working in Pennsylvania and my first port of arrival will be LA.

The L1 visa covers you to work in any US location as long as your still doing the same job in the same company.
