work permit on L2 for child

My father is here at a L1 visa and my Mom and I have a L2. We are Dutch citizens. Next month I am turning 18 and I would love to get a job to pay part of my college costs. I have been told that only my Mom can get a work permit, since she is the spouse, and not me, as a dependent. Is there any other solution that I can still earn some money in the legal
way here in the US??
