My partner currently has a L1 visa and is working in the US. She and I have been living together for over 3 years and while we were living in the UK, were considered to be in a common-law relationship and I was able to get a spousal work permit there.
The L2 in the US requires us to be actually married, so we're considering that now. Would it work if we simply went to cityhall and got married? I've read you might need to provide some proof of the wedding like a photo album. As this would just be a quickie at cityhall, would the fact we can prove we have been living together for so long act as a substitute?
Also, should we use a lawyer for this?
