Got laid off on L1 Visa - PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, I just got terminated from my company effective on the day of notice. I am on L1 visa and wondering what my status will be. Am I now considered an illegal immigrant? Is there a grace period for my staying in the US? Can I still change my status to B2 (tourist visa)? The company policy is give notice on the same day we are asked to leave. I have not prepared anything for my returning to home and I don't know what I need to do. Please help!! Thank you for replying.

Yes, you have to apply for COS to B2 immediately or you will be out of status. Do not wait or the B2 to be approved. Finish your unfinished business and wind up stuff in couple of days and leave immediately.
