On L1 - New H1 approved -Travel to India

Hi DMX17 / txh1b,

I am working in L1 visa now.I got my H1B selected in the lottery system.
Now I am planning to go to India this August 22nd and return on Sep 15th.

My questions are:

1. Do I need to go for H1B stamping when I go to India
or Can I travel on my L1 itself (as new H1B is valid starting Oct 1st )?

2. Do I need to produce any documents at the Port of Entry?

Pls reply. Its very urgent.

---- Once you go out of US and you want to join your H1 company, you must return with a H1 Visa stamp on your Passport. You need to have a I-94 valid for H1 from teh POE

---- Seek an interview for a H1 Visa stamping at a US Consulate, complete this formality and return on H1

2. Do I need to produce any documents at the Port of Entry?

---- Your H1 approval notice and H1 Visa at a minimum

1. Depends on if it is a COS or not. If it is a COS approval, you can travel out and back on L1 before Oct 1st and your status automatically changes to H1b using the Efren Hernandez memo from Oct 1st. Look it up.

2. Nothing other than the status that you enter on. Later, you can get the I-94 reflecting your status from the local USCIS office. I have seen one person do this on the forum.
