L1, job transfer to India, can stay on I-94?

Hi ... i am currently working on a L1B visa. My I-94 is valid till Sept 2009. My company is transferring me back to india. My question is-- can I stay on here in the USA for a few weeks after my last working day is supposedly Oct 31 2008 ?

You cannot stay once your employer decides to send you back.
It will be counted as an illegal stay in future stamping.

How long can he/she stay for once he is terminated?

Would there not be some period to allow him/her to organize a move and settle/close accounts here in the US?

Officially, there is no grace period. Your status ends the day your job is terminated. You can use your vacation to extend your pay period which is little bit of a safe haven but not legally.
