I have got my L1B visa stamped already for one project. However, we have an urgent requirement for me to work for another project/client (on the same technologies and skillset) in the US.
I undrstand that I need to file an L1 amendment with USCIS. How long does this process usually take? And does it require another round of personal appearence at the consulate?

The petition has to be amended and can be done using premium processing for result in 15 days.

I hope it was not a blanket case.

It was indeed an blanket petition. Would the process be very different in this case?. Also, does it require another personal appearance?

Doesn't your company have an immigration unit in HR? If they applied for a blanket L1, they definitely should have one. Ask them as to what they are doing?
