Related to 221(g) Pink Form given at Chennai

My husband had an interview on 24 Sep 08 for L1 Visa.
He has been given Pink form asking additional documents.
He has mailed "Chennaisao" answering quesstionare on 30 Sep 08. Currently his online status is "Pending Process".
My query is that if he gets visa what will be his expiration date of Visa.
My husband had applied L1 visa for 3 years.
So will his 3 years counter start from 24 Sep 08 only. Or US consulate will start visa issue date from the day of visa approval.
Please let me know ASAP.

Expiration date of visa depends on the petition or I797 date initially. It can be extended later on if needed.
