L2 to B2 COS while L1 is out of the country

Hi,

I am on L1 and visa/petition/I94 expires during November end.
My wife is on L2 with me.

I am planning to go to my home country for my visa stamping. But my wife will not be able to travel with me as there are medical complications.
During that time when I am out of US, Can my wife stay here?
Following are my questions.

1) Can my wife apply for a COS from L2 to B2 so that she can stay in US till I come?
2) If I apply, how long does it take to get processed?
3) Suppose, I am coming back before her B2 COS gets approved, should I apply for another cos from B2 to L2? Or should I cancel the previous application for L2 to B2 COS?
4)I hear that I94 extensions are getting rejected nowadays. Incase I provide any proof that my wife will not be able to travel, will the consulate consider that proof for approving my I94 extension..? I know, it might not work, but still wanted to check. Is this possible?

Yes, If your visit is temporary outside US and your L1 job offer is intact, she can stay in the US and need not travel with you.
