L1B granted for only one year

Hi all,

I have attended my L1B (specialized knowledge) visa interview on 9th jan 09. As my company's blanket petition expires on 10th march 2010, my L1B was granted only till that time. Does that mean that the remaining period of 3 years is lost? What is the procedure for extension? If I apply for extension later, what is the maximum amount of time that it will be extended? Is it 2 years?

L1b can be extended for a total of 5 years.
