  • Received 1099-Misc from Google on L1 Visa

    Hi,

I am on a L1 Visa since April 2007 and received allowances from April 2007-June 2008, in June 2008 I was shifted to the US payroll and started receiving my paystubs here, around the same time I also got my SSN number.

I also have a website which I have as a hobby and have ads on it, I received a 1099-MISC form from Google for the income received in 2008, now I am in a fix, since I did not know that I could not receive income from online service if I am on a L1 visa.

I need to file my returns, and am really afraid since I do not want to create any complications in my green card processing, how do I go about now?

Can anyone help me and suggest any thing right now, I am really very scared.

Thanks in advance for you replies, looking forward to it .

Take down your website and not have any ad income from it. It is illegal to have income from other sources on your visa.

      Hi,

      Thanks for you response.

The website in question is maintained from my home country, however I decided to receive payments using direct deposits since it is convenient, however once I received a SSN, i though it was legal to enter it in the Google form without having a clue that it was illegal and I would receive a 1099-misc from them.

The problem right now is that I already got a 1099-MISC and am ready to add it to my returns, however I got it without having sufficient knowledge and want to find a solution for it without jeopordizing my green card process.

Any advice would be really really appreciated very much.

      Thanks

There is no solution as the harm has already been done.

With this you mean, that my future is now technically ruined forever and I many never be able to get approved for a GC?
