Can L1 Visa earn online?

Hi,

I am on L1 Blanket Visa. I would like to know if I can earn online apart from working for my regular employer. When I say I earn online - I mean the following.

1) I work by biding for jobs as a free lancer on sites like elance.com etc.
2) I receive payments using paypal.
3) I transfer payments from paypal to my US bank account.

Please let me know if you think this is illegal.
