Need Help- Transfer from H1b to L1A

I would appreciate a help on the following..

My H1b is expiring in Mar 2010. Iam now in India. My I-140 is approved.
Iam eligible for L1A because of my designation. I wish to go back to US in L1A since my wife can also work till we get GC/EAD.

Iam working in the present company in Managerial designation in India for more than 1 year.

If i go to US in L1A, will that affect my GC processing time?

What will happen to my GC if i allow my H1b to be expired? I am required to do this since my Company may not allow me to process L1A since I already have an eligible visa to go to US.

GC and H1b are separate petitions and are not linked in any way if you are outside the US.
