  • Should I ask for sponsorship now

Here's my situation: I move to california almost 2 years ago under L2 Visa. Since then, me and my wife broke up but didn't divorce.
I would like to stay here but in order to stay, I will require sponsorship. Since my previous employer wouldn't sponsor me, I switched company almost 2 months ago. During the interview process, I mentioned that I would most likely require a work visa and HR said that they already did that in the past and that it could be done after a 6 months probation or even before if required.
Now it's been only 2 months since I started working there but I know that my wife wants to move back home to europe.
It's freaking me out and I wonder if I should ask about sponsorship right now or if it's too early and if it's gonna scare my new employer...
What should I do? I really need advice

You should discuss your case specifics with HR as your EAD will become invalid if the L1 holder leaves the country and have them sponsor a H1b for you immediately. If you wait too long, the H1b quota could get filled and you will be forced to leave the country. Act now and get the H1b sponsorship immediately.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
