L1 Visa

Hello,

I am a British citizen on an L1 specialized knowledge visa and I live in Florida. The original visa in my passport has expired but I have received my renewal approval notice.

I have a business trip to Canada but I cannot get an appointment at any embassy to have the visa extension added to my passport before that trip is due to happen. Can I travel using my visa approval notice or if not can I re-enter on a visa waiver and then go back out to get the visa added to my passport?

No, you can't do that. You will need valid visa stamp.
