Validity of old status on denial of new status

Hi,

Could anyone please let me know if I apply for a Change of Status from L1 to H1, and if it is denied, will my L1 status (currently valid till 2011 before application) still remain valid?

If COS gets denied, previous status remains valid.

But if approved, you will have to start working immediately for H1 employer and get paid too.
