L1 Visa Eligibility & Passport expiry after a year

My company will be initiating my L1B Blanket visa petition in Dec 2009.
But my passport expires in Dec 2010 after a 10yr duration.

1) Will there be any issues in getting the visa due to the expiry of my passport within a year.
2) Even if I get the visa, will the visa duration be restricted till Dec 2010 (the expiry of my passport) ?
3) I am planning for a long term (abt 2-3yrs) onsite role. Is it recommended to get the passport re-issued in Mumbai before the application of the visa.

3) Not required. You can renew passport while in US, 2 months before expiry.
