  • L1 L2 Extension

    Hi,

I am in US with a valid L1 B VISA and my family on L2 VISA. Our existing L1 and L2 VISA will expire on MARCH 2010.

We applied for an L1 and L2 Extension. I received the I-797C for L-2 extension from USCIS. The USCIS has approved an extension of 2 years for the L2 class mentioning the name of my wife and daughter.

    Here are my queries:-

    1. I am not sure if I would also recevie a similar L-1 extension approval notice.

    2. The VISA expiry date in the passport shows the old expiration date. How will the new expriy date get stamped.

    3. Is the extension of the status is automatic or I need to travel back to India and get the new extended stamping and then return to US.

    Thanks in advance.

    >>>> You should be getting an L1 extension. Check the case status in USCIS web site.

    2. The VISA expiry date in the passport shows the old expiration date. How will the new expriy date get stamped.
    >>>> Visa is only an entry document to U.S. When you are inside the country, the expiry date on the I-94 is what counts. You can get the visa stamped whenever you travel out of U.S by going to a U.S consulate.

    3. Is the extension of the status is automatic or I need to travel back to India and get the new extended stamping and then return to US.
    >>>> No need to go to your home country. Your approval notice should have come with a valid I-94 attached to the bottom. You can legally be in U.S until the 'Valid till' date on that I-94.
Not a legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.
