Hello, I've concern regarding L1 & L2 visa!

hello, i've questions regarding my parents visas?
My mom had L1A visa and my dad had L2 visa. My moms company(employer) closed his company and as a result she lost her job. Before she lost the job they had already applied for I-140 and I-485 petition. But due to the circumstances, they recieved a letter on April 30,2009 saying that their application for I-140 was denied. They also recieved another letter on December 11, 2009 saying that their I-140 and I-1485 was denied. My dad applied for his EAD based on his L2 in July and he recieved his EAD in a month based on his L2. What they wanted to know was that:
1. When exactly did their status change to out of status?
2. Do you think that the employer informed USCIS after July because he got his EAD based on L2?
3. Can he get an EAD if L1A was out of status and also if he is out of status?
4. Which letter do they believe to be their denial of I-140 and I-485 petition, april 30 or december 11, 2009?
5. How long do they have before their 3+ year restriction?

2. It doesn't matter. L2 eligible for EAD. L1's employer has nothing to do with that.
3. No. L2 depends on L1. L1 out of status => L2 out of status.
4. Technically April 30.
5. Did not understand question. After losing job, they have to leave US.
