Change of status from L1 to L2

Hi All,

I and my wife are currently on L1 from same employer. My wife wants to resign and change her status to L2. My company says she needs to go back to INDIA and then file a L2 but I read from some forums that change of status from L1 to L2 can be done within US and one need not go back to home country.

Can you please let me know if change of status from L1 to L2 be done within US? Also, can she work here once the status is changed? Why is my employer insisting on going back to INDIA for L2?

>>> Possible. She can apply for COS from L1 to L2 from with the country. No need to leave the country to get L2 stamped. But she need to do this when she is in valid L1 status (Need her L1 pay slips.)

Also, can she work here once the status is changed?
