L1 travel with a passport going to expire soon

Hi,

I need to travel US next month on L1 visa but my exisiting passport will expire in Nov. Can I travel with this passport and from US, apply for a passport renew ? or immigration officer at US port of entry can raise issue with this passport(although my L1 will be valid till 2011 end) ?

Anybody has faced similar issues ? Also how much time a passport renewal process takes in India ? I heard sometimes it can take months of processing and sometime delivery takes weeks of time.

Please suggest.

You can travel. The problem could be that you might get an I-94 only till the passport expiry date even though your petition is valid longer than that. In which case, you will need to apply for extension before the I-94 expires.

Passport renewal in India might take longer. However, there is a Tatkal scheme.

Passport renewal in U.S will take around 20 days.
