L1 to H4 Conversion

Hello,

I am looking for advice for a colleague's spouse. Colleague is on H1B and her spouse is on L1A status (both in the US). Please see below.

"My husband is on L1A (I94 expiry - Jan 1, 2020). He would like to move to H4 as my dependent with an effective date of April 30, 2019. Please let me know once the paperwork (I-539 COS) is filed, can he stop working on April 30 while the H4 conversion is in process. It would be good to know so that his exit from the company can be correctly timed."

He just need to "file" I539 & can start considering his status is changed the very same day the receipt is generated.
