My L1A extension is in progress and I have to travel out of country. If I have to come back before my L1A is approved , I can move to L2(spouse has approved Visa). But if I do that will my L1A extension get cancelled?

Yes, you can travel out & move to L2, just get it stamped outside USA before re-entering into USA.
Most probably when they issue you your L2, they will cancel your existing L1A visa (without prejudice).
You can enter using that L2, but cannot work until you get your EAD or your own L1A (I129) & then COS (I539) to L1A approved (note you need to file COS from L2 to L1 after L1 approval).- I am not an Attorney, hence not giving any legal advice. Just sharing MY opinion with an intent to help others.
