  • Tax declaration after Visa expires (L1B)

Hi, I am right now on an L1B in the USA.
If I decide yo leave and go back to my home country, before my visa expires, do I have to file US taxes each year to proof that I paid taxes in my homecountry Germany?

Furthermore will I loose my social security #?

i had a few troubles with my bank in Europe eg they did not allow me to open a brokerage account due to my US SSN. (International income needs to be taxed in the US)

i would know if anybody has experience with that after their moved back to their home country.

Your Social Security Number stays with you for life. That you have an SSN has nothing to do with whether you can open accounts abroad or whether your income is taxable in the US. Whether you have a US visa has nothing to do with it either.

If you do not pass the Substantial Presence Test for a given year, you are a nonresident alien for US tax purposes, and your non-US income is not taxable in the US.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
