  • Things to do after Landing on L1/L2

I am on L1B and my Spouse on L2, we are landing in US next month in Seattle from India. Wanted to know how the following things will work and what all documents will be required?

    - Getting a SSN (Can both of us apply simultaneously or will spouse has to first apply for EAD?)
    - What address to give while applying for SSN as our temporary accomodation is only for 2 weeks and we wont have any apartment on rent till then i believe
    - For renting a house, what documents are required? Is SSN mandatory? Is a credit card mandatory? Since we wont have any credit history?
    - Documents required for getting a sim card, getting a drivers license, opening a bank account?

What is the sequence of getting all these things done? Which has to be a prework for doing anything else? Like can i find a house on rent before SSN/Phone number etc?

You both can apply for it together, and it should be the first thing you should do asap. EAD can be done later, once both of you settle down.

People use their friend's address, so that they can get the SSN card delivered.

Your passport, visa, SSN & a cheque is sufficient to rent a house. No Credit card mandatory. You might have to do some refundable deposit in absence of credit history.

Indian passport would work for SIM & Passport+SSN for Bank account. Driving license also doesn't need a permanent address, but its better to do license after house lease.

    1. SSN
    2. SIM
    3. Bank
    4. Secured credit card
    5. House
    6. Driving license & Car

On prework side, you can just surf internet & choose the best fit plans/price for you.
