  • Withdrawal of passport when it is in Administrative processing in consulate.

My L1A renewal is in administrative processing in US Consulate at Guadalajara, Mexico. My existing L1A is valid till Sep 2019

    1) Can i withdraw the passport and travel to US under existing L1A? Do i need to give specific reason (The State Dept website says Urgent travel.. so not sure if i need to qualify my reasons to go back)
    2) I need to also travel to India for a wedding and come back by mid July (will existing L1A valid till Sep 2019 enough to seek a re-entry?)
    3) Once a decision is made on visa, can i travel back to Mexico for getting it stamped?

Any experience / pointers will be helpful.

    Thanks
    Anand

No, you don't need to qualify. Still, you can mention that you were already in USA & were working full time, just came out for stamping & you do not have much vacation time to wait.

It "might" just delay the process, as when they are ready, they will notify you, ask you to go to Mexico again, submit passport, get stamp & come back.

So confused by responses from different points. I call up ASC call center to understand the process of withdrawing the passport... the answer i get it we can do it but your underlying "Old valid visa" may have been cancelled. Unsure on what to do... getting stressful given that we are in a country that is neither our current home of permanent home!!!! Any guidance will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
