Mess of L2 Extension

My Application for L1 Extension was filled with premium processing. L2 extension for my wife and son was filled along with it. EAD was also filed along with L2 Extension.
The visa is already expired and extension is in RFE. Now my wife needs to travel to India for medical emergency. We are aware of traveling will abandon L2 extension for my wife and son. I think i don't have any other option than abandoning their application. Just waiting for attorney reply to book tickets. They have to go back wait for my L1A approval, file L2. Come back here again and file for EAD.
Such a mess of situation. Does anyone have similar experience?
