  • Adding dependents when making L1 visa appointment on ustraveldocs.com ?

    Hi There,

My company filed L1 visa petition for me and my plan is to take my dependents together with me for both visa interview and the actual move. But now here is my confusion:

When making my L1 visa interview via ustraveldocs.com (a.k.a CGI), I had the option to add my wife and my child as dependents for the same appointment time slot and paid the fee for 3 of us. I did these and received the appointment confirmation letter with 3 machine scan-able receipts on it, all looked good.

But today I received a call from the US embassy staff telling me that I should not have used one single ustraveldocs.com account to book visa appointment for myself and my dependents reason being that we're applying for different visa types (L1 for myself while L2 for my wife and child), and said I should cancel the appointments for my wife and child and create new profiles/user accounts for them to make a separate L2 visa appointment.

This sounded surprising to me because: 1) we can see so many examples where L1 principles and their family members go interview together, and 2) the CGI website did provide option for me to add dependents when I was making the L1 visa appointment.

Anyone has experience or advice on this situation please? (P.S. One thing does look odd in my current visa Appointment History is that the 'visa type' for both my wife and child shows 'L1' though they're supposed to be 'L2', but there is another attribute 'Is dependent' marked 'Yes' for them).
