Change in biometrics requirements for L1A dependents (L2)?

I have applied for my L1A extension and recently received biometrics appointment letter for my dependents. Is this something which was recently introduced? I rememberly distinctly that we have never had to go for biometrics for extensions earlier. Is this going to increase the timeline for adjudication?

Would appreciate if someone can share their experience. Just want to ensure nothing is wrong with our case.
