  • L1A Blanket - Under AP - Refusal under 221g - Questionnaire over email?

    Hi

My spouse's and I went to Chennai for the L1A Blanket category Visa interview. The officer asked some per-functionary questions, and then said that the visa has been approved. The officer then handed over two sets of stamped I-129S forms (L1A Blanket was circled on the approval stamp), kept the third set along with our passports. We were not handed over any colored slip at the time.

The next evening however, the CEAC site showed our applications under Administrative Processing, and my spouse got a questionnaire over email from the Chennai consulate email Id. The questionnaire asked profile questions similar to the DS-160, but for the last 15 years in most cases. We filled that and sent back a reply email after a couple of days. It has been almost 4 weeks since we sent back the reply. I suspect that the application got flagged for TAL (position is for Data Science), but don't know if there is a way to figure that out.

Can someone help us with the following:
    1. Which "color slip" category might this come under since we didn't get a slip on the day of the interview, but got a questionnaire after the officer had "approved" the forms? Do people flagged for the TAL get personal questionnaires regarding previous addresses, phone numbers, email ids, etc?

    2. Does the Chennai Consulate respond back with a confirmation that they received our response? We haven't got any indication about it. Should we confirm receipt of the filled in questionnaire?

    3. Does the case status "last updated" date change to the date you sent a response back, or is there no way to confirm that the consulate has received the requested information?

            Congrats :-)

No update on our end. Still shows AP with the same date. We did however resubmit the documents again because we read that there should be an automated response back from the email id. This time we submitted as a PDF from the office email and immediately got a confirmation of receipt.

I have my I140 approved and could not file my EAD due to retrogession of dates, I have to go for L1A extension which i am thinking to go to canada for blank stamping. Can anybody help in letting me know will it be a problem to get the L1A approved since i have my I140 approval done as the Visa Officer might think i will stay for long in US

                Hi

So our Visa did get approved. It took 55 days since the case creation date (or 52 days since the last case update). Few points that people may not be aware of (we weren't)

                1. If asked to submit additional information in a questionnaire, and you fill it and send it back, you are supposed to get an auto-generated acknowledgement. We did not get any acknowledgement when we filled in the Word document. This may be because it got blocked, or the system was down or there is no auto-generation for a Word doc. We did get an auto-generated acknowledgement when we sent our answers as a PDF file and from an office email id.

                2. There is no email sent when the case status date gets changed. We decided to stop checking and would only check once a week, sometimes twice. This way we let go of the stress. Also, it was a pleasant surprise to see "Issued" popup in the message box. The only email you can expect is from usatraveldocs intimating the passport dispatch and courier number. We got this after the passport delivery date.
