Hi,

About to file DS 160 however now my passport has 18 months valid on it until expired. Can I apply for a new passport quickly and use the new one?

Hi,

i would suggest to go for visa with current passport since you mentioned its valid until 18month and then you can plan for renewal of passport, the reason is you won't be able to renew passport with more than 1yr validity. Please check with your local passport authority before make any decision.

Depends on your country of origin - if your country allows to renew your passport now, go ahead & do it (you won't have to carry 2 passports on your travel). If not, then too you are still fine to get visa & then renew your passport later (you'll have to carry both passport on your travel).
