Working past expiry date while waiting for EAD renewal

If my EAD has expired and I have applied for renewal, can I work by showing the I-797 receipt notice while waiting for the renewal case to be approved? If not, is there any interim document that I could provide and continue working till the renewal comes through? Please help answer. Thanks in advance.

No, you cannot work past your EAD expiry, until you get your renewed EAD in your hand.
