  • L2 visa stock trading

    Hi
can i invest in stocks if I have a SSN from my previous visa category? Do I need an EAD on l2 to invest in shares?

Yes, you can certainly invest in stocks.

Without an EAD, as long as you are not "working" you are fine. Its similar to getting interest on your investments, or earning from renting a property you own.

      Hi Friend,
Can L2 visa holder have join trading account with L1 visa holder? Does L2 needs EAD to open trading account? Can we do any type of trading like intraday, short term etc?

On November 12, 2021, the USCIS announced that E and L2 spouse visa holders are no longer required to apply for an employment authorization document (EAD) to work in the United States by holding L2 or E status. So you can invest in shares if you have an SSN from the previous visa category. You can not worry about this step because it works. I say this from my own experience. I started trading with the SSN from the previous visa category, and everything is going well. So, chill.

If I'm not mistaken, many details depend on which stocks you invest in. Investing in shares of private companies does not have any clear restrictions related to the subject's citizenship. Most transactions or contracts are carried out through online platforms.

Hey there. It's great to see you're interested in investing in stocks. As for your question, having a Social Security Number (SSN) from a previous visa category is a good start, but it's best to check with a financial advisor to confirm whether you can use it for stock investment. L2 visa holders generally do need an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to be able to legally work and earn income in the U.S.
