L1B to L1A and Spouse EAD

Hi,

I have an L1B visa. It is about to expire in Oct'10.

1. How much time does it take to change L1B to L1A?
2. Can I file for EAD for my spouse parallely filing for change in status from L1B to L1A?
3. Or- do I need to file for extension of L1B and then file for L1A?
