Have to split name , remove FNU and apply for Visa Extension ... a problem ??

Hi.

I am currently in US on L1 visa which is expiring soon on 1st October. Now i have to extend it but there is problem with my name.

In my current passport my name is mentioned as :

First Name : YYYY YYYYY
Last Name : <blank>

Because of that when i applied for L1 Visa. I put my name as First name as YYYY YYYYY and last name as blank. It reflects in my petition as well. I got to know the problem it was stamped and in my visa document i saw my name as :

First Name : FNU
Last name : YYYY YYYYY

When i came to US I put my name in the I-94 as :

First Name : YYYY
Last Name : YYYYY

Because of which i got my Driving license, SSN, Bank Documents all with the name as :

First Name : YYYY
Last Name : YYYYY


Now my visa is getting expired and i have to file an extension . Before that i would like to correct my name in the passport. I checked with the Indian consulate and found that i can easily split my name. But they will back off my old passport and send me the new one with the new name.

Now because of that i will be losing my Visa however i can keep my I-94 with me, i am not sure about that.

Will this create a problem as i wont have the visa document or I-94 for another 3 months before i file for an extension ???

Also i have one more question , If i change my name on the passport and file for the extension, will there be any problem ???

The reason why i mentioning this is my last petition my name is not spitted and now i am splitting it. There could be a name miss-match in US consulate record and hence may create some problem.

I need an urgent help from some one who could guide me on this.
