Cannot get a visa renewal interview in Canada

I have been trying for several months time now to schedule a L visa renewal interview in Canada and cannot find an available appointment. There just aren't any available interview timeslots in any of the consulates or in Ottawa.

Is it just me or are others experiencing the same problem? I may give up and try Nassau in the Bahamas - any suggestions welcome.

My home country is Australia - too far to go back there.
