  • L2/EAD Question

    My L1 extn got approved on Aug 3rd. I filed L2 and EAD extension petition along with my L1 extension. I have got same EAC number for L2 and EAD. L2 status in the USCIS web site is still in "Initial Decision" stage. I have the below questions.

    1. How long will it take to have L2 Ext approved after the L1 ext approval.

    2. Is there any way to expedite the L2 Ext approval process.

    3. Will L2 and EAD get approved at the same time or Will EAD take 3 more months to get approved after L2 extn approval.

    4. L2 and EAD extension was originally filled on July 7th and the current EAD is expiring on Aug 18th. My dependent can manage to take 2 weeks vacation with no pay. Is there any chance that L2 and EAD extn will come before August last week?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. How long will it take to have L2 Ext approved after the L1 ext approval.
    >>> It will take 2-3 months from the date of applying.

    2. Is there any way to expedite the L2 Ext approval process.
    >>> No.

    3. Will L2 and EAD get approved at the same time or Will EAD take 3 more months to get approved after L2 extn approval.
    >>> If you have applied it together, you would get both within 2-3 months.

    4. L2 and EAD extension was originally filled on July 7th and the current EAD is expiring on Aug 18th. My dependent can manage to take 2 weeks vacation with no pay. Is there any chance that L2 and EAD extn will come before August last week?
    >>> No one can predict. If you don't get it in 90 days, then you can apply for an interim EAD. When you have 6 months to file the extension, why do you have to file it so late and worry?

      Thanks for your response.

      Ya Now i regret for not applying for the extension soon. Me and my dependent were negotiating with my and her employer for H1. Finally both of them refused it and we lost first 2 months in this negotiation. I have one more question.

      My L1 ext was filed under premium processing. My employer says that L2/EAD extn also filed along with L1. As my L1 extn is filed in premium processing, is that applicable for L2 and EAD or will that speed up L2 or EAD approval process?

        There is no premium for L2. Sometimes USCIS process L2 at the same time when L1 is processed. However, it is not mandatory for USCIS to approve the L2 extension as well within 15 days (When both L1 & L2 are filed together and L1 is on premium).

          L2/EAD extn : Infopass ques

          Just now i found that there is an option to meet the immigration officer using the infopass appointment. In my case it is not being 90 days since i applied for L2/EAD extn. Will meeting the immigration officer can help to get my EAD renewed faster?

              Thanks for the immediate response on a Sunday

              Also i have two more questions.

              1. As i am going to meet the immigration officer before 90 days, will that have a negative impact on the process?

              2. Does getting a letter from the employer stating the importance of the employee will add value?

              thanks again!

                >>> I don't think so.

                >>> I don't think so. You can give it a try. You had 6 months prior to the current status expiry date to file for the extension (L2 and EAD). If you filed the extension at the last minute, then it is totally your fault. An interim EAD can be requested only when it is 90 days past the filing date.
