Question on L1 Visa-- Please Help

Hi I have question regarding the L1 visa. I am the employee of the X company from past 3 years and 2 months and then after I have changed myjob and now I am working with the Y Comapny from last 5 months which is my current company.Now my previous company which is the X comapny asked me to come back and join them for the US assigment and giving me the onsite opportunity to work from the US office with US payscale. Now my question is the is it a legal that I can join my prevoius company(X) and go for the L1 visa and work in the US. I am little bit about that and could not able to figure out what to do. I have read the rules but still I am not sure what to do in this case.
