L2 - EAD query

Hi,

I will be getting an L1B visa and L2 for my husband.

1. Is EAD mandatory before he can start working with a US employer?
2. Does it always take 90 days for the EAD to arrive once he applies for it?
3. Is there any other way to minimize or zero this 90 day idle period?

>>> It will take somewhere between 2-3 months (Usually).

3. Is there any other way to minimize or zero this 90 day idle period?
>>> No. But he can get a work visa right away (H1B or L1) and travel. That way he can work from day one. Working on L2 is a privilege, so it is mandatory to get the EAD.
